Once again GRIB participates in “Visit the research of La Marató”

At the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, we are participating in this initiative by organizing four visits where different projects funded by the 2021 Mental Health Marathon will be explained. On May 27 and 28, we will discuss the project led by Dr. Gabriel Santpere and on May 31, Dr. Manuel Pastor will present two fictitious but realistic cases.

From March 8 to June 28, hundreds of people will witness firsthand the advancements in scientific knowledge about various diseases, thanks to the drive of solidarity, in a new cycle of visits to research centers with projects funded by the La Marató de TV3 Foundation.

At the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, we are participating in this initiative by organizing four visits where different projects funded by the 2021 Mental Health Marathon will be explained. On May 27 and 28, we will discuss the project led by Dr. Gabriel Santpere, member of GRIB, who, together with Dr. Patricia Robledo, proposes a highly innovative methodology to predict the risk of developing schizophrenia. This will be done by combining information from nasal cavity neurons (olfactory neuroepithelium), genetics, and brain imaging from a group of people with and without symptoms of the disease.

On May 31, we will try to raise awareness among visitors about the difficult challenge doctors face when detecting patients at risk of suicide to provide them with the appropriate preventive treatment. It has been shown that the assessment of suicide risk can be improved with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Dr. Phillipe Mortier and Dr. Manuel Pastor, member of GRIB, will present two fictitious but realistic cases so that, using the clinical history and the tool the team is developing thanks to the project, visitors can identify different risk factors, protective factors, and evaluate which of the two patients is at higher risk.

The Hospital del Mar Research Institute is one of the fifteen research centers participating in the guided visits organized by La Marató de TV3 to show donors how research is conducted with the funds raised. “Visit the research of La Marató” was born in 2015 with the aim of bringing research closer to the society that makes it possible, becoming a project of social return and transparency for the La Marató de TV3 Foundation.

Registrations for the visits are free and can be made on this page: visitesrecercamarato.tv3.cat
